History
Breaking news
Nicholas swam as a member of the GB
Team, in the 100m breaststroke, at the IPC European Swimming
Champions in Iceland.
Nicholas was one of seven swimmers
within the new S14 classification for athletes with a learning
disability. Since the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games learning
disabled athletes have been suspended from all Paralympic Sports
events, following cheating among the Spanish L.D. Basketball Team.
The IPC European Swimming Championships was therefore the
first event since 2000 which included learning disabled
competitors.
The International Paralympic
Committee will formally meet in November, when a decision on
learning disability participation for London 2012 will be
made.
In his race, Nicholas recorded a
time of 1:14.70. This won him the Silver medal, for second
place, and was a new personal best taking 3 seconds of his previous
p.b.
Nick competed at the INAS-FID Open European Swimming
Championships in Poland. He won two gold and 3 silver medals. He
also won a further four silver medals in the open championships
which included non-European teams.
Nicholas went to the Championships as GB Team Captain and led
the way with a series of great performances. His gold's came
in the 200m backstroke (which he also won two years ago) and in 4 x
50m medley relay. Silver was won by Nicholas in 200m breaststroke,
where he beat his previous Personal Best time by six seconds, in
100m breaststroke, where he also secured a new P.B. His third
silver came in 1500m freestyle, where again he beat his previous
P.B., this time by 35 seconds. Nicholas's four silver medals
in the open event came in 200m breaststroke, 200m backstroke, 100m
breaststroke, and finally in 1500m freestyle.
Nick competed in the Kent Championships and won 5 gold medals in
February 2009.

the Gold's in the: 100m Backstroke, 100m Breaststroke, 50m
Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Freestyle, and silver in the 100m

the INAS-FID Global Games in Czech Republic (5th-14th July) was
part of the stand out swim of the competition was the 4 x 100m
Medley Relay in which Nicholas swam the first leg
(Backstroke). They broke the old World Record by two and a
half seconds which had stood since 2002, also winning the Gold
medal thus becoming the World Record Holders, Global Games
Champions and World Champions.
Nicholas got on at the INAS-FID Open European Swimming
Championships in Poland held on the 16th-22nd August.
He Won 2 Gold and 3 Silver medals. Also he won 4
Silver Medals in the open championships, which included countries
from outside Europe. The gold medals included the 200m Backstroke
which he successfully defended after winning this
