Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle

Welcome to the Active Ashford website.

Active Ashford is made up of organisations with health as one of their key priorities, such as the Primary Care Trust (NHS) and the school sports partnerships.

The partnership is supported by some of the biggest sporting names in the County who have some form of link with the area such as one of Britain's top athletes, runner Lisa Dobriskey, Olympic

Gold Medal Winner cyclist Jamie Staff and Strictly Dance Champion,

Ola Jordan (above picture).

Other pages on the site look at County and National Performers who have links to the Borough as well as ways of obtaining funding.

One of the major impacts of Active Ashford is to get more people participating in physical exercise, a directory of places to do this can be found as well as to clubs that have achieved the Quality Standard Accreditation eg Clubmark.

Active Programmes

In 2009-10 Active Ashford was in a position to provide schemes aimed at getting people more active.  Schemes such as Active Swim which aimed at getting people able to swim through free lessons and the Active Together rural project which aimed at attracting people aged 50+ to take part in activities such as walking in their own village. Other programmes targeted children and adults with physical and learning disabilities and young people that may not attend school or on the verge of being excluded.  More information on all these schemes can be found on this website.

In the first year of the programmes being run, the numbers that have taken part have been in their thousands and many of those people have benefited and now live healthier lifestyles.
