Vicky Silk, Great Britain
athlete and potential medal winner at the London 2012 Paralympics,
has become the latest star to become a sporting ambassador for
Active Ashford, the Borough’s Sports Partnership Network.
Vicky is a member of the Ashford Athletics Club and represented
Great Britain at the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports
World Games last year where she took the bronze medal for
Javelin.
The 16 year-old rising star from Folkestone is high in the world
rankings for Javelin (3), Shot (13) and Discus (9), and her
achievements led to her becoming the Sportsperson of the Year at
the BBC South East 2007 Sports Awards.
Vicky said: “I am very pleased to be an ambassador for Active
Ashford and I hope that being involved with this positive local
scheme will offer some encouragement to young people about what can
be achieved when you focus and work hard towards your goals in
sports.”
Simon Harris, Sports Operations Development Officer at Ashford
Borough Council, said: “Since launching the scheme earlier this
year, the response from local sports people to Active Ashford has
been fantastic and Vicky is yet another example of the wealth of
talented athletes that we have here in the borough.
“We hope that Vicky’s example, along with all of our
Ambassadors, will serve as an inspiration to others to get active
and become involved with sport in some way.”
